It’s inspiring to see our students excel using the gifts and talents bestowed upon them by Father God. Their achievements are a testament to their dedication and perseverance and the support of their families and teachers. Together, we commend our students for striving to do their personal best and celebrate their achievements with them.

Students win ICAS medals in Science, Mathematics, Spelling and Digital Technologies

Congratulations to Gabriel H (Year 4) and Eric Y (Year 2) for winning multiple ICAS medals and achieving first place in Queensland for their subjects. ICAS assessments reveal the top performers in each subject and year level across the state. Gabriel has excelled in Spelling, Science, and Digital Technologies, earning an exceptional three ICAS medals. Eric has excelled in Mathematics and Science, earning an impressive two ICAS medals. We are so proud of every student who strives to do their personal best, and we commend Gabriel, Eric, and all distinction winners for their outstanding academic achievements.

National Mathematics Talent Quest – Highly Commended

Year 4 students Gabriel H, Zach C, and Jonas T represented Queensland at the National Mathematics Talent Quest this year and were awarded a Highly Commended certificate. This recognition followed their first-place win in the Queensland Science Contest last year, where they completed a mathematical investigation. The competition, run by the Science Teachers Association of Queensland (STAQ), was available to our students in extension Maths classes. In these classes, Years 3-6 students engage in higher order thinking activities, requiring them to work collaboratively to apply a number of strategies to solve real life problems that extend their understanding and application of mathematical concepts.

UQ Year 7 and 8 Maths Quiz – Third in Queensland

The Year 7 and 8 Maths Quiz is a highly prestigious maths competition sponsored by the University of Queensland. Teams of three compete against other schools over five rounds. This involves individual and team problem-solving, speed, estimating and general maths knowledge. This year, one »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ÍøÕ¾ team won the Brisbane South Regional Maths Quiz in a tiebreaker with another »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ÍøÕ¾ team and have been awarded medals from The University of Queensland. In addition, for the first time, »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ÍøÕ¾ tied third in the Maths Quiz State Finals against 20 regional winners from across the state. Congratulations to the following students.

  • Third at State finals: David T (Year 8), Hayden K (Year 7) and Eason W (Year 7)
  • Second at Regionals: Hansen Z (Year 8), Daniel W (Year 7) and Viraaj K (Year 7)

Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) – Primary Results

Students in our extension Maths classes in Years 3-6 participated in the AMC, a competition that challenges students’ problem-solving skills. Our students performed exceptionally well, achieving the following results:

  • Credit: 44 students (top 55% of their year and region)
  • Distinction: 83 students (top 20% of their year and region)
  • High Distinction: 18 students (top 3% of their year and region)

Special congratulations to Ryan C (Year 5) and Charmaine K (Year 6) for being prize winners, a rare achievement awarded to no more than one student for every 300 students within a region and year group. Charmaine also received the ‘Best in School’ award for the best overall result in the College, adjusted for year level.

Mathematics Competitions – Secondary Results

These achievements reflect our students’ hard work and talent and the support they receive from staff and parents. In ICAS Assessments for Mathematics, all year levels from 7 to 12 exceeded the Australian average scores and achieved the following results.

  • High Distinction: 1 student
  • Distinction: 16 students
  • Credit: 33 students
  • Merit: 11 students

Our teams placed in the top 25% in the Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiads (APSMO). Seven students in Years 7 and 8 performed in the top 10%. In the UQ/QAMT Problem Solving Competition, two students from Years 8 and 9 received commendations for being in the top 20% of their year level. In other maths competitions hosted by the Australian Maths Trust, students earned the following results: 

  • High Distinctions: 18
  • Distinctions: 48

Science Competitions – Secondary Results

Students from Years 7 to 12 showcased their talents in the Science ICAS and the International Chemistry Quiz (ICQ), earning the following results: 

  • High Distinction: 39 students in ICQ
  • Distinction: 19 students in ICAS

Additionally, Isabella C, a Year 9 student, received a Highly Commended award in the Communicating Science Division in the STAQ Queensland Science Contest.

RoboCup Junior Australia – National Champions

We are excited to celebrate Ryan C and Riley L (Year 5), who were crowned National Champions in the Primary Rescue Line Challenge at the RoboCup Junior Australia competition. Their team excelled against top robotics groups from Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea, securing first place in an intense competition with 26 teams.

Queensland Clarinet and Saxophone Society Competition – First, Second, Third and More

Our tridents excelled in this competition and achieved the following results:

  • FIRST: Resonance Reeds
  • SECOND: Clarity Reeds
  • HIGHLY COMMENDED: Trio (Cecilia S, Charmaine K, Ethan L)
  • FIRST: Anne L, Grade 3-4 AMEB Clarinet
  • THIRD: Charmaine K, Beginner-Grade 2 AMEB Clarinet
  • HIGHLY COMMENDED: Cecilia S, Grade 5-6 AMEB Clarinet

»ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ÍøÕ¾ offers various musical ensembles, including bands, choirs, and orchestras, led by experienced directors in the Academy of the Arts. These groups perform at events within the College and externally, such as competitions like this. Students receiving music tuition can undertake examinations with the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB), utilising a syllabus to improve their musical skills and earn qualifications that are internationally recognised and respected.

Students selected for School Sport National and State Competitions

We are proud to congratulate the following students for their outstanding achievements in school sports and their selection to represent Queensland on the national stage:

  • Gold: Obinna O (Year 6) won gold in the 11-Year-Old Boys Long Jump with a jump of 4.81m at the State Athletics trials and has been selected to represent Queensland.
  • Bronze: Leo C (Year 4) won bronze in the 10-Year-Old Boys 100m at the State Athletics trials and has been selected to represent Queensland in the 100m and 4x100m Relays.

Also, congratulations to the following student, selected for the state championships:

  • Met East Team: Helena JvR (Year 6) competed at the Metropolitan East Triathlon trials and has been chosen as part of the Met East Team to compete at the Queensland State Championships next year.

We are incredibly proud of our athletes who represented Metropolitan East at the state championships. Congratulations to River H (Year 11, high jump), Lauren P (Year 10, 100m), Samuel R (Year 12, 200m), Ullrich M (Year 12, 100m), Noah G (Year 11, 100m), and Skyla F (Year 9, 400m).

Christian Schools Track and Field – Age Champions

We celebrate the achievements of our track stars who performed with excellence at the state competition run by the Christian Schools Sports Association Queensland (CSSAQ). Congratulations to the following students on their outstanding results:

Christian Football – National Competition

Congratulations to Lincoln D (Year 9) who was selected for the state team to represent the Queensland Christian Soccer Association at the national titles.

Melissa L (Year 5) represented the district with the Southern Districts Basketball Association and placed second in the final.

  • Speed Skating: Max H (Year 4) and his team were crowned champions at the Australian competition, with Max achieving an impressive fourth place in his age group.
  • Judo: Kazu M (Year 9) won a GOLD MEDAL in the Australian School Judo Championships for the U/15 boys’ competition.
  • Hockey: James S (Year 9) was selected for the Queensland U16 Field Hockey squad. At the Secondary Awards Night, we acknowledged James’ sporting achievements with the Most Outstanding Performance in Sport – Junior award.

  • Ice Skating: Olivia L (Year 4) will represent Queensland in synchronised ice skating at the national championships this week.
  • Skiing: Mia competed in Ski Cross and Alpine events (both Division 1) at NSW & QLD Interschools Snowsports Championships at Thredbo and the Australian Championships at Perisher.
  • Gymnastics: Leah H (Year 3) was crowned Brisbane South Regional Champion for Level 4 in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics and was part of the winning team at the QLD WAG Junior State Championships.
